DNA Testing for Cats & Dogs
in Spring, TX

WHAT IS PET DNA TESTING?

Pet DNA testing is a simple and non-invasive way to analyze your pet’s genetic makeup. It involves collecting a small DNA sample, usually through a painless cheek swab or saliva collection. This sample is then sent to a specialized lab where advanced genetic testing and analysis are performed.

Discover the Secrets of your Dog or Cat’s DNA

At A Couple of Vets in Spring, TX, we offer comprehensive pet DNA testing services to help dog and cat owners uncover valuable insights about their furry companions. Beyond breed identification, genetic testing can uncover valuable health insights, such as any predispositions to specific illnesses, dietary needs, and sensitivities. Many pet parents also gain behavioral insights, making it easier to train and care for their pets effectively. For mixed-breed dogs and cats, this testing can provide clarity on their ancestry and help resolve the curiosity often linked to rescue animals. Additionally, identifying inherited health conditions early can allow for preventative measures, improving your pet’s quality of life.

Comprehensive DNA Genetic Health Analysis Testing for Cats and Dogs

We offer 2 types of DNA screening offering different levels of DNA analysis;  Royal Canin’s Genetic Health Analysis or the Wisdom Panel. Together with the information we collect during testing, we can create a customized health care and nutrition plan for your cat or dog.

For cats, the Genetic Health Analysis determines the breeds that make up your cat and compares your cat’s DNA to the unique genetic signature of 70+ different cat breeds within you cat’s breed mix. Genetic Health Analysis also identifies blood type and more than 45 health conditions including Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy and Polycystic Kidney Disease as well as over 25 physical trait variants, some of which may have health consequences.

For dogs, the Genetic Health Analysis works the same as for cats. Through dog DNA testing, you’ll not only discover your dog’s breed compared to more than 365 dog breeds, predict your dog’s likely adult size and weight, and screens for over 265 different health conditions including MDR1, and trait variations that may impact your dog’s health down the line.
